Manatee Habitat builds homes for families that are now designed and built for sustainable and affordable living. Since 2011 the affiliate has implemented a variety of “green” construction techniques for new home construction in an effort to create a more efficient and healthy Habitat home. In addition,Habitat has begun to utilize green techniques in the retrofit, rehab and repair homes projects throughout Manatee County.
Green homes benefits for Habitat homeowners are many and include saving money on utilities, hurricane protection and improved air quality. Building with sustainable housing products helps our community and give Habitat volunteers knowledge and skills that they can utilize in their own homes. Manatee Habitat is proud to have received recognition for its sustainable building efforts on the state, regional and national level.

The Energy Department announced winners of the first-ever Housing Innovation Awards, recognizing 46 diverse industry leaders bringing the best in energy efficient building technologies and design to new and older homes and helping households save money.
The DOE Challenge Home Builder Awards are presented to builders who are changing the way homes are designed and constructed. The DOE Challenge Home designation is the symbol of excellence in home building. Only a select group of the top builders in the country meet the extraordinary levels of excellence and quality specified by Energy Department guidelines.
