Who We Are
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, nondenominational, Christian ecumenical housing ministry that welcomes people of all creeds and colors. We build safe, decent, affordable homes with those who lack adequate shelter.
Millard and Linda Fuller founded Habitat for Humanity in 1976 in Americus, Georgia and it is now headquartered in Atlanta. Since then, Habitat for Humanity has built 350,000 homes. These homes provide shelter for over 1.75 million people in 90 countries. A new Habitat home is completed somewhere in the world every 20 minutes.
Manatee County Habitat for Humanity
The Manatee County Habitat for Humanity Affiliate was chartered in the summer of 1994, as a result of a friendly spin-off from the Manasota (Sarasota) Affiliate. Since then, Manatee County Habitat for Humanity has built 100 homes with the help of donors, families and volunteers.
Manatee County Habitat for Humanity recently completed two neighborhoods – the Washington Park (12 homes) and Village of the Palms (34 homes) neighborhoods in Palmetto.
Who makes this possible?
Families – Through Manatee County Habitat for Humanity, families invest themselves in the building process and gain self-reliance, self-esteem and new skills. Once they are homeowners, they become tax-paying members of the community who take pride in their new home.
Volunteers – Habitat touches the conscience of thousands and motivates other to act. While working together, volunteer, homeowners and donors build relationships that break down barriers and enrich the lives of everyone involved.
Donors – Since its founding in 1994, thousands of people have given to Manatee County Habitat for Humanity. They share our vision for eliminating poverty housing in Manatee County and invest their resources to help families gain access to home ownership who could not otherwise own a home.
